Fitton claims Comminges' agent has lured player to Cardiff
Exclusive By Andy Cryer

ANDREW Fitton believes Cardiff-bound Miguel Comminges had his head turned by his agent - insisting Town could have done no more to keep their French revelation.

As Comminges' Ninian Park move edged closer to reality, Town chairman Fitton revealed the Frenchman's initial term demands were met before the agent raised the stakes at the 11th hour.

Fitton insists he bears no grudges towards the Guadeloupe international but revealed fears his Championship dream may not be as rosy in reality as his agent has made out.

Comminges, currently on a break in Vienna, moved closer to agreeing personal terms with the Welshmen this week and is expected to sign when his Town contract expires on July 1.

While suggesting Comminges was never going to remain at Town no matter what was offered, Fitton again stressed the efforts the club made to keep him.

After winning a clean sweep on Town's player of the season trophies, Comminges stunned the County Ground faithful by rejecting a new contract offer in favour of a move to the next level.

Fitton though has questioned the reality of regular Championship for Comminges, raising fears he could be nothing more than a bit-part player next campaign.

He said: "We tried really hard to keep Miguel, in fact no one knows quite how hard we did try. In my opinion Miguel has not had the best advice from his agent.

"Contradictory he said he wanted to play regular football on one hand and that he wanted Championship football. I think he will be on the bench and will be looking at playing 15 games at Cardiff.

"I think his agent talked up the prospect of the Championship and that was what turned his head. It is shame but these things happen in football and we will add to our squad this summer.

"As long ago as January we tried to agree a new contract with Miguel but his agent would not let him sign it. Then we met their terms before they came back and put their demands up. The agent obviously wanted him to move."

Comminges is closing in on his inevitable move to Cardiff and should sign a pre-contract agreement in the next few days.

Yes, A.F..These agents will manipulate players to move on in order to get big fat fees. These agents should be regulated by the football leauge..they cost the game a small fortune that many clubs cant afford to pay.

Sounds to me that the agent done a very good job, he got Comminges a club in the championship and more money, fair play to them both.

Sorry but this smacks of bitterness from AF.

When Mooney buggered off to The Scum, who were in a lower division, I was peed off. Likewise when Evans went to Blackpool who were in the same league.

But Cardiff are in the league above, in the cup final, and have the likes of Fowler and Hasselbaink on their books, not to mention they undoubtedly pay better. Of course Comminges wants to go there. The fact he might not go straight into the first team is largely irrelevant.

"Yes the agent is doing his job"
If as AF stated they offered a good deal so to the player and agent it appears not to have been good enough.
If it had been money and AF&mm wanted the player they should have upped the stakes, and besides the player will be in a championship club.

Also the comments from MM we are going after loaness ony????? what happend to all the big clout AF brought into the board????
As fans we know with the gates we get they cannot throw money around but to make a statement as MM did its No wonder MIguel is moving on.
Come on AF & Board give MM something to work with

Fact of life, footballers move on. Nice to know we tried to keep him.

Comminges was excellent this season, but he's not irreplaceable. Good luck to him. Time will tell if the move is a good 'footballing' one fo rhim.

A.F. Thanks for trying to keep him here.

The trouble is that if a player makes up his mind, or in this case his agent, to go there is very little that can be done to keep him.

Maybe a reality check of life in the football league these days. It's one thing having asperations of the championship. It's another atracting and keeping players here that are good enough to get us there.

It is disappointing that Comminges is leaving - but we have to remember that the club, albeit under a different regime, only offered him a one year deal when he first arrived because they felt they were taking a punt. We got a good year out of him, if it had failed, it wouldn't have cost the club a wasted long term contract like the three amigos. The irony of that punt is that he has done too well. Good luck Miguel, I wish you were staying but I can't blame you for wanting to test yourself at a higher level.

This is football in 2008, you do the best for client I suppose as an agent because you have a reputation to build. I understand that there is wage structures that the management won't want to break and so forth but you have to pay to attract and keep quality. It is hard in this leaque to do that so the rules may have to be broken to get the right people.

I am surprised due to the massive financial resources on paper of the board that they seem to stay within limited guidelines for transfers and contracts. You can I am sure buy success with shrewd and sensible purchases.

I am sure that now the fans that were sat on the fence know we are not going to sign anyone that may of excited them, we will not reach the magical 6000, sometimes you just may have to over step those guidelines to tempt some of those that are not die-hard supporters but will start going as soon as we start to play good football with good players against good teams.

We've been linked with Steve Lovell, striker, from Aberdeen. Seems pretty good. 12 goals two seasons running in the SPL can't be too bad, coming to League 1 he should do well.

I can't see Roberts going, Malpas seems to like him and I think he wants to give him more of a chance to show what he can do when he comes back from his knee injury.

12 goals in the SPL? That equates to about 5 in League One.

Roberts isn't going anywhere. No one will sign him while he's crocked and he certainly won't choose to leave.

Players come players go, if a club like Arsenal can lose some of their best players. it'll happen at the GC as well, it's fact of life in football. AF get over it and go find some new players Instead of sounding bitter.

Dunno how you figured that goal ratio out then because the SPL has a much higher level of football than League one.

Also, Ricky Lambert won't come to us. Theres too many Championship clubs looking at him, he'd choose to go to one of them over us.

If we want A.F to start splashing out on players, we had all better stop whinging and take up the great offer of discounted season tickets.Think about it ....why should the board spend more cash when many on this site want success before making any financial committment themselves!?We have been in the doldrums for to long..we must all start believing in success and get behind A.f!!!
