Spitfires in cup triumph
SWINDON Spitfires had two teams in action at the SCI Brean Sand Mitre Ultimatch Easter Cup, the under 14s winning their event while the under 11s finished runners-up.
The under 14s saw off Yeovil Town 6-0 (Abbie Picton 2, Alice Smith 2, Lucy March, Laura Ballard) before a 1-1 draw with Enfield Town Ladies B, Rawlins netting.
Enfield's A team were then dispatched 7-0 (Smith 3, Picton 2, Niamh Rawlins, Laura McGlone) before a 1-0 win over Liverpool side Crosby Stuart Girls thanks to another Rawlins effort.
The final group game saw Spits secure a 1-0 win over Cadbury Heath, Smith netting the all-important goal.
In the final, Spits again faced Enfield B for a second time, Rawlins giving them the lead and excellent saves by Tamsin Kellett securing the honours.
Squad: Tamsin Kellett, Nia Richards, Kayz Debank, Amy Baker, Megan Tidy (capt), Chloe Craig (vice-captain), Lucy March, Laura McGlone, Niamh Rawlins, Kelly Nightingale, Abbie Picton, Alice Smith, Lampy Ballard.
The Under 11s were also strong in the qualifying group stage, opening with a 2-0 win against Redditch Borough with goals from Vicky Rawlings and Hannah Donovan.
Donovan was on target again to see off Kingskerswell 1-0, and then notched a brace in the 2-0 win over Bedfont Sports.
A goalless draw followed against Pontypridd Town before the final group game saw a 3-0 win over Team Weston, Emily Thomson, Molly Craig and Donovan the scorers.
In the final, Spits were unlucky to go down 1-0 to Ashmore FC.
Both teams received their trophies from former England international Matt Le Tissier.
